Revealing The Places On Your Ears To Have Piercings Done For Those Additional Earrings

Like the name ‘earrings’ suggests, earrings are placed in the ear. You will first have to get your ear pierced before getting an earring and this is where you can find the variety in different places for earrings. Depending on where you get your ear pierced, you can choose different kinds of earrings. Before 1950 there was just one place for the earring that was commonly seen, namely the earlobe.

Even though an earring at the earlobe is still most common, you can also see many other different earrings on different places. This has also contributed to the huge amount of different kinds of earrings that have been designed because some fit well on one spot in the ear while others can’t even be used on other spots.

The places on the ear that can be pierced are described below.

1 Helix

A helix earring can be found on the outer ring of the ear. Usually small rings are attached in this part of the ear. It doesn’t matter if you have a piercing done more up or down along the outer earring it will always be called a helix. If you want to have something which isn’t commonly seen, you can even take two or more small helix earrings next to each other.

2 Industrial

The industrial piercings and earrings are in a class of their own. Two small holes are pierced in the upper part of the ear and a small barbell is placed between them. This piercing is quite rare and it can definitely leave an impression on people that see you with this earring. The piercing is also referred to as scaffold and can take up to a year to fully heal.

3 Rook

The rook piercing can be found above the entrance of the ear on the upper part of the ear shell. Normally only small jewellery is used for this kind of piercing. It can also be said that it can be a painful procedure to get it pierced because this part of the ear is quite thick.

4 Daith

The daith piercing is made just a bit up from the entrance of the ear. This one can also be quite painful and it can also take 3-6 months for it to heal.

5 Tragus

The tragus piercing is made on the little piece of ear that stands out a bit on the front side of the ear opening to protect the ear. Because the size and shape of the cartilage vary per person you will have to see what kind of earring would suit you well at this spot.

6 Snug

The snug piercing is done halfway towards the outer rim on a piece of inner cartilage on the ear. The cartilage is not really thick here so it’s less painful and heals faster.

7 Conch

The conch can be found on the outer part of the ear. Your piercing will basically be done a bit on the inside and the ring that will be placed through the piercing circles around the outer part of cartilage and should be big enough to go around the outer part of the ear

8 Anti Tragus

The anti tragus is a piercing done on the upper side of the earlobe and the downside of the ear shell. A small earring is usually on its place here.

9 Earlobe

Like previously said, the earlobe is the most common spot on the ear for a piercing. The earlobe is the soft sport on the bottom of the ear.

If you are thinking of having anything pierced make sure it’s done by a professional using streile equipment. Also make absolutely sure that you want extra holes. Multiple piercings, however, do offer a wide ranger of earrings to choose from and can be great fun.

Question by Jenny Hollester: why are my ears getting infected? “earrings”?
I just got my ears pierced and the are getting infected. This is the second time that i have had them done and i keep them clean at least 3 times a day.
any suggestion’s?

i am a 21 Y/O on my own and don’t know what to do.
Please Help
Yours Truly,
Jenny

Best answer:

Answer by A-Zap
You only need to clean them twice a day. What are you using to clean them? I suggest hot water with sea salt or bactene. You may have gotten cheaper earrings that contain nickel or another metal and it is possible that an allergic reaction is causing the infection. I suggest trying titanium or sterling silver ring that are guaranteed nickel free. I hope this helps!

Ear Care Tips-Tips for Healthy ears
It is so true that we don’t appreciate what we have till we lose it! Taking care of our ears doesn’t require much effort but can be rewarding in the long run. The following are some tips for healthy ears which in turn help maintain well preserved hearing and balance
1. Do not injudiciously use earbuds in your ears!
Using earbuds in the ear canal can push the wax deeper into the canal creating even more difficult removal, scratch the canal with resulting infection, tear the skin of the canal with bleeding, or even perforate or tear the ear drum. The wax pushed in deep can affect the vibration of the ear drum or produce complete blockade leading to hearing loss, ringing in ears, dizziness and even infection.
Cerumen [ear wax] is natural, lubricates the ear canal, catches dirt particles, and naturally moves itself and collected debris to the outside. To clean wax from your ears gently remove it with a thin clean cloth wrapped around your little finger. Over the counter wax dissolvents should only be used once your ENT doctor has ruled out a perforation of the ear drum.
2. Sound Protection [ear care]
• Avoid exposure to loud sound
• Exposure to loud sound has the potential to produce permanent hearing damage
• Avoid loud firecrackers
• Avoid being in premises of loud machinery
• Avoid loud music-keep the volume down!
• Do not use headphones for long periods-keep at low volumes if using them at all
• Do not keep the volume of your mobile phone ear piece high[especially take care if you are using a hands free mode]
• If you keep the ring volume of your mobile loud do not take the ringing phone close to your ears-press the answer button to stop the ring before you put the phone near your ears.
• Always make sure children are adequately protected- always screen children’s’ toys for loud noises .Some toy sirens and squeaky rubber toys can emit sounds of 90 decibels (dB)[factory workers exposed to same sound levels actually have to wear ear protection!]When held directly to the ear, as children often do, a noisy toy actually exposes the ear to as much as 120 dB of sound, a damaging dose—the equivalent of a jet plane taking off. Noise at this level can result in permanent hearing loss
• Wear adequate ear protection when exposed to loud sounds
3. Never pour home remedies such as oil into the ears for any condition whatsoever.
In the presence of infection or a perforated ear drum this can inflict permanent damage to the ear.
4. Do not insert sharp objects into the ears to relieve that itch!
You may be surprised how often ‘accidents’ occur ending in injury to the ear canal and ear drum!
Sternly forbid children from inserting any object into their ears.
In case your child has inadvertently inserted some object into the ears try tilting the head so that the ear faces down. Do not attempt removing the object on your own as you may push it in further or your child may move producing grievous injury. Always seek a professional ENT surgeon’s help since atraumatic removal often requires special otologic microinstruments and the first attempt is the best attempt.
5. Precautions when Swimming [ear care]
Do not swim in murky waters as it can lead to infection.
Do not swim when you have an outer ear infection
Alwys get clearance from your ENT doctor before swimming if you are recovering from an ear infection
6. Do not ignore the ringing or buzzing you hear in your ears [called tinnitus]. [ear care]
It may be due to high blood pressure [get your BP checked], hearing loss, middle ear disease or nerve or blood vessel tumour. Tinnitus evaluation entails a detailed history and complete head and neck examination by an ENT surgeon. In certain cases investigations may be needed to clinch the diagnosis.
7. Never ignore ear infection in children as inadequately and inappropriately treated it can produce long term sequelae.Your child may also need careful follow up by an ENT surgeon and vigilance on your part for picking up a suboptimal hearing capacity in your child. See- could your child be suffering from hearing loss
A discharging ear should not be neglected. Hearing and balance can be seriously affected if not adequately diagnosed and treated. Ear discharge may be due to dangerous bone eroding disease called cholesteatoma which can produce life threatening complications such as brain infection, convulsions [fits],facial paralysis etc.
8. Ear pain need not be due to ear disease. It can also occur in conditions of the TM joint [joint of jaw], infection in nose, sinuses or throat, cancer in throat etc. A thorough ENT and head and neck examination is required in such cases.
9. Be extra vigilant and careful if you are an “at risk” individual.
Persons with following are at increased risk for otologic/hearing problems
• Family history of hearing loss
• Exposed to loud noises at home/work environment
• Long standing disease in nose[allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, polyps etc]
• Diabetics- they are especially prone to infections of the ear

How to Clean a Dog’s Ears and Tips and Warning

Many dog owners don’t clean their dog’s ears on a regular basis, leading to a dog with ear infections, discomfort and even hearing loss.

Some pet owners simply don’t understand the importance of weekly ear cleanings for a dog, while other dog owners procrastinate when a dog struggles and resists ear cleaning efforts. And others still try to clean their dog’s ears on a regular basis, but they aren’t cleaning the dog’s ears properly, therefore missing out on the benefits of regular ear cleanings.

Read more on How to Clean Dog Ears and How to Stop a Puppy from Biting. Also visit on How to Stop a Dog from Barking

Clean a Dog’s Ears

1. Use an ear wash formulated for ear cleaning. It’s important to never use undiluted peroxide on your pet’s ears as it may cause burning.

2. Soak a cotton ball thoroughly in the ear wash. Squeeze out excess ear wash.

3. Place the cotton ball in your dog’s ear and gently rub up and down.

4. Allow your dog to shake off excess moisture. This is important for preventing ear infections.

5. Soak the tip of a cotton swab in the ear wash and run it along the nooks and crannies of your dog’s ears.

6. Avoid putting the swab down your dog’s ear canal; leave this type of cleaning to the veterinary medical staff.

Tips & Warnings

1. Never use pure undiluted peroxide on your pet. The peroxide can harm your dog!

2. If your dog has chronic ear infections, consult a veterinarian. Chronic ear infections could be a sign of allergies or other problems.

3. If the ear canal looks abnormal, clean only the outside and consult a vet.

Follow these steps to clean a dog’s ears effectively, while minimizing discomfort and struggling.

1. Begin by setting out the materials that will be needed to clean the dog’s ears: ear cleaner, cotton balls or cotton pads, Q-tips and dog treats.

2. Place the bottle of ear cleaner in a bowl of hot water. Shake the bottle occasionally and replace the water with new hot water as it cools. Let the bottle sit in the hot water for five to seven minutes. This will warm the dog’s ear cleaning solution, making the process more comfortable for the dog. Many dogs who resist and struggle during ear cleanings object to the sensation of the cold cleaning solution in their ears.

3. Sit the dog on the couch or in an arm chair. Sit the dog in the corner of the chair or couch and sit right next to him. This will keep the dog in a comfortable setting, while preventing him from backing up and squirming away.

4. Dampen a large cotton ball or cotton pad with the canine ear cleaning solution and wipe the ear. Repeat as needed and then move on to the next ear. This part of the ear cleaning process will remove a significant portion of the ear wax from the ear.

5. Next, dampen both ends of several Q-tips with the warm dog ear cleaning solution. Use the Q-tips to remove the ear wax from the nooks and crannies of the dog’s ears and from the outer portion of the ear canal.

6. During the ear cleaning process, offer praise and treats to the dog and keep the tone upbeat and happy. This will help to ease some of the dog’s fears concerning ear cleaning.

To avoid injury to the dog’s sensitive ear structures, never stick the Q-tip down into the ear canal. The best rule of thumb for safely cleaning a dog’s ears is this: Only clean the portions of ear that are visible.

In addition, some dogs have fur inside their ear canal. This will make ear cleaning more difficult and it also makes the dog’s ear more prone to bacteria growth. Remove the hair from the dog’s ears by plucking the hairs (it’s not painful when small chunks of hair are plucked at once) or trim the dog’s ear hairs.

Regular ear cleaning for dogs is best started at a young age. But even older dogs can be introduced to a regular ear cleaning schedule when the dog owner goes about the dog’s ear cleaning process in a gentle and encouraging manner.
Dog owners should always be on the look-out for signs of a dog with an ear infection. Symptoms of a dog with an ear infection includes redness, swelling, pain, head shaking, frequent ear scratching, thick ear discharge and ear odor.

Question by Niamh: Daughter’s pierced ears – do you think my ex is just being awkward or does he have a genuine grievance with me?
My youngest daughter got her ears pierced for her sixth birthday. At the time, my oldest daughter didn’t want hers done.

On Saturday we went shopping, and she spied a pair of earrings she really liked, they are kind of like a similar style to a belly ring (although with a much thinner, more circular and smaller bar), and when worn give the appearance of a tiny small silver ball stud in the ear with a flower hanging on the bar below the ear. She remarked that they would be worth having her ears pierced for and asked if she could get them.

I didn’t consult with my ex. I didn’t see the point, since he agreed to our then 5 year old ‘s request to get them for her 6th birthday, I was sure that our almost 9 year old having hers done would be a non-issue.

He says that with our youngest it was different because she had wanted them continuously for a long time. He says I should have made our oldest take a “time-out” for a couple of days to give her a chance to think it through.

He also doesn’t like the idea of her wearing the earrings she’ll change into after they heal. He has the notion in his head that, even though they were designed to be worn in ears, kids wearing “body jewellery” sends out the wrong message – and he’s worried that if she is allowed to wear “body jewellery” style earrings, she’s going to want the belly ring to match.

Answer by hstngirl
You probably should have asked her to wait a few days, just to make sure, so I can understand him being grumpy. But what’s done is done. And no REAL big deal… he’ll get over it and is probably more upset that he wasn’t involved with the decision.

As for the body jewelry, what the heck are earrings? Jewelry you wear on your body. Hmmm. As long as your rules about piercings beyond ears are clear and firm there shouldn’t be an issue.
